I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Cheryl over the years. It is my pleasure to share her with all of you. ~Sudie Alexander, Chief Fun Officer of Jump Create

My name is Cheryl Waters, and I reside in beautiful South Orange County, California. I am married for 17 years. We have one beautiful, fun-loving nine year old daughter who brightens my life. I have a very close knit family and the family unit both in genealogy and my church family, is very important to me. I love spending time with my family and I love the outdoors. I also enjoy doing charity work and attempting to give back to my community. I hope that as I cross paths with others that both will be blessed and lives enriched. I know that I am truly blessed!

I have had the blessing of being a lead and founding Fiskateer and began my journey in 2006. It has been an incredible journey and I’m excited to continue as a lead. I am so grateful to be a part of the Fiskars family

I work full time in law enforcement and enjoy working with the community. I have enjoyed watching my position as a Fiskateer crossover into my law enforcement position. Crafting is so much about life!

Prior to working in law enforcement, my husband and I (later came my daughter) lived overseas (primarily South Africa, Zambia and Madagascar) for six years as Christian missionaries. I learned so much about life, culture, community, forgiveness, blessing, giving, sacrifice, challenge and my faith grew in a huge way. It was a life-altering and growing experience.

Scrapbooking has always been a part of my life in one way or another. Besides teaching at several different venues as a Fiskateer in several different states, I am also a Creative Team Member at my local scrapbook store . . . Timeless Treasures. I enjoy teaching, scrapbooking, altered arts, fine art, and drawing. I enjoy thinking outside the box with my projects. My style of scrapbooking leans more towards Shabby Chic although I enjoy all styles of scrapping.

I was encouraged by friends to submit some of my work and have been published in Memory Makers Books as well as Somerset Home and Memories (formerly Legacy) on several occasions. I have had the blessing of working with this wonderful company and have written articles for Stampington and Company/Somerset.

Our Big Wonderful World

Jump Create is proud to present our latest class, just in time for Thanksgiving Break.

Our newest online scrapbooking class has been kid-tested, mother-approved. Big WW class appeals to any age group or level of experience. Parents and children will create their own books as they spend family time together.

My Big Wonderful World

Guided by prompts, you will create a book all about your world. We recommend the smaller top loading album. A 6 by 6 or a 8 by 8 album.

These classes are offered weekly in four parts. Classes begin Friday.

Classes are free to Jump Create members. However, you must register in order to gain access to the class instructional materials, audio support, and classroom gallery. Register by emailing hello@jumpcreate.com with subject “BIG.”

Cost of the class for non-members is $9. To register, please email hello@jumpCreate.com with subject “BIG.”

At Jump Create, we encourage you to share scrapbooking with your children.

Scrapbooking provides children with hands-on inspiration for reflection, expression, creativity, and learning.

You may find that scrapbooking will provide your child with motivational, emotional, therapeutic, and educational benefits as well. Emotional benefits include boosting self-esteem and give opportunities for self-expression and success. Scrapbooking is be therapeutic for many children as they sometimes have difficulty expressing thoughts and emotions.

The best reason to share scrapbooking with your children is that it is a fun and rewarding way to spend quality family time together.

Recommended Supplies:

6 by 6 (or 8 by 8 ) top loading mini album

black pen for journaling

adhesive (quality glue stick for young children)

We all know art can be fun. But did you know it can be good for you too?

Promotes Well-Being
Research has prove that the process of art-making promotes well-being. Experts believe that by engaging in creative expression children will be assisted with developing skills, increasing self-knowledge and self-esteem, improving behaviors and decreasing stress.

Improved Cognitive Skills
According to an article by art therapists in New York State, “The intrinsic sensory quality of art materials can hold a joyful experience for the child, while the manipulation of the art supplies can teach cognitive skills as well. Participating in an art experience offers an opportunity for a sensory experience in which a student is using many of their senses to experience the materials. The approach is multi-sensory, drawing not only on visual skills, but also tactile perception (feeling, touching) and motor skills (gross and fine). Research has shown that students who participate in the arts perform better in other areas because art helps students with whole-brain development. Through cooperative learning and collaboration during art groups students are learning to work with others thus contributing to personal development. Art is an essential element for well-rounded development in an educational program. Work in the arts contributes to development of creative and higher-order thinking skills across the disciplines. The power of the arts can literally change a person’s life by helping him or her to develop skills such as leadership, socialization, life enrichment, sensory development, manual dexterity, tactile exploration skills, development of texture sensitivity, communication and language skills, self-awareness, confidence, and creativity.”

Boosts Self-Esteem
The process of creating is a wonderful tool for boosting self-esteem. Self-esteem is instilled in us during childhood. Having positive experiences with self-expression boosts confidence and is a first step towards finding happiness and a better life. Positive feedback is an important step in believing that you are unique, special, and that you deserve to have your dreams come true. Every parent wants this for their children.

More Benefits
Researchers have even found that creative play has an influence on a child’s social and emotional maturation, their capacity for self-discipline, shared work, and self-expression. They believe that creating works its magic on the brain by strengthening key neural pathways in the cortex, where spatial reasoning occurs. Also, many children’s crafts require beginning problem-solving skill development.

Not to mention… creating art can be so much fun!
